Drawing Flies 52

There is still one day until Christmas, and if you’re looking for a unique gift to get someone, check out the book that Jeff Kennedy at Drawing Flies 365 has to offer (or just buy it anyway, good books are always worth having).
Jeff and I have also been talking behind the scenes, and we have decided to collaborate on a new project that will involve both of our blogs. We are going to each draw one fly per week—the same fly on the same day—and post those flies to our respective blogs. Think of it as “Drawing Flies 52.” Each fly will be our own interpretation that neither of us will see until we post. The idea is to create a collaboration hosted by two artists who love to illustrate the same subject matter. To keep the project manageable (and to actually enjoy it, too), we are going to limit ourselves to 30 minutes total drawing time for each fly.
The first fly will be a Mickey Finn (the classic streamer), and it will appear on January 1, 2010. New flies will appear every Thursday thereafter (for at least a year, we are thinking). We both hope that FF&W and DF365 readers will enjoy the project.
Start watching on New Year’s day!
