Some of you may have noticed the new “Collaboration” header over in the sidebar, and wondered what was going there (indeed one of you wondered enough to e-mail and ask). The collaborations are exactly that, FF&W and a small group of other blogs working together to provide content and so forth. Today is the day [...]
For those following the Speed of Haul discussion on the Sexyloops Bulletin Board, here’s that post I promised. For those not following the discussion (or not wanting to read through those pages of casting-tech pontification), what follows is a quick taste of double-hauling (short cast) as shown on the 200-frame-per-second motion-capture system used by the [...]
I recently re-acquired all 315 remaining copies of my Nature of Fly Casting book. I sold through a small stack last week at two club events, and am making the last of the books available here on FF&W (for a special price, of course). All 320 pages of pedagogical fly-casting goodness are available to U.S.-based readers [...]
In addition to the on-going blog entries here at FF&W and over at DF365, I’ll be keeping a “photo album” of my flies on my Facebook pages (both my personal and the FF&W pages). The Facebook album will be a week behind the blog, and will only contain the core fly images, not the full [...]
Gregg Perez picked up a copy of Nature of Fly Casting in the recent FF&W Facebook give-way. Congratulations, Gregg, and thanks to all the FF&W fans on Facebook. The next E-List mailing will also have a give-away component, and another will be coming to the Facebook crew when FF&W hits the 100-fan mark. Stay tuned!
It was inevitable, I suppose…FF&W is now on Facebook (sorry to the legions of tweens who read this site, but there is no FF&W MySpace page). Go now my friends, and become fans (and if you have a good shot of yourself with an FF&W tee and a massive fish, you know where to post [...]
The GB/JB book series that I’ve been talking about here at FF&W continues to move ahead. GB and I finally decided on a trim size (7″X10″), and I finally got the layout and font choices figured out (we hope). While it’s not exactly a thrilling bit of news, GB and I want to keep interested [...]
The old boy is fast if anything, that’s for sure. The first book in our upcoming GB/JB educational series has been uploaded to our shared FTP server. Granted, we’ll have to edit, polish, illustrate and layout before printing, boxing, warehousing and (hopefully) selling, but all 70,000(!) words are in their initial places.
GB and I are getting [...]
The Fly Casting Institute (FCI) is partnering with Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, Montana to present the 2010 Marcus Daly/Fly Casting Institute Clinic from April 9-11.
The hospital’s rehab center is a fantastic facility, and the clinic will be held in conjunction with the hospital’s rehab professionals. The cost for the Clinic is $995. For [...]
As promised: Spey goodies. This is Juergen Friesenhahn’s contribution of German efficiency to the Spey world (especially the shooting-head side of things). I like the way the cast flows so smoothly and quickly, using a variation of skills that many Spey casters already possess (Can you make a Snap-T or Snap-V? If your answer is [...]
Finally got around to paging through “Catch Magazine” #7. Excellent as expected, with some very up-close-and-personal (and spectacular) tarpon photog work by Daniel Göz. “Catch” #7 also includes “The Light Series Part 4: Late Light,” which is inspiring to say the least (so many of my memories of great angling places are steeped in the [...]
The Portland Midnight MPR League (”PMML” on the street) was born from a desire for something more, something that would be remembered, something that would etch the names of the brave into the hearts of a city longing for heroes.
The PMML is secretive, its members few. The exploits of the group on the dark and lonely [...]
